SEO Myths #7

Just put these words on your page loads of times and it'll do really well in Google

If you over-use certain words or phrases, you can upset Google as it looks like you've over-optimised the page and are 'keyword stuffing.'

There are two disadvantages to this: you can incur a minor penalty from Google, which will automatically downgrade you a little in matching searches so instead of being on page 1 or 2, you're down on page 5, 6 or lower. And, in that position, you'll find your traffic levels are slashed.

Just as importantly, repeated phrases can kill readability and people arriving at your site are unlikely to read your sales copy and buy. So say goodbye to your conversion rates. Or as my colleague likes to say - your page can read like it's written by an idiot, and people don't tend to buy from companies they think are staffed by idiots!
